Department organizes seminars and workshops on a regular basis for the benefit of the students. The Department has been organizing a national level paper presentation contest ‘NIRMAAN' every year since 2000. In 2005, in addition to the paper presentation contest one technical exhibition NIRMAAN EXPO 05 also was conducted, which was much attracted by the public.  The student chapter of the Institution of Engineers ( India ) is very active and conducts technical talks by eminent personalities regularly

The department is actively involved in research and consultancy works. This service is being extended to various government and non-government organizations, in addition, the department undertakes funded projects from various government agencies. The department also renders technical advice and supervision to various constructional activities of people's planning programme. Faculty members of the department render service as members/chairman to various expert committees constituted by government/quasi governmental organizations.

Students of Civil Engineering Department have won third prize in 2004, second prize in 2005 and First prize in 2006 in the students National competition for the Best Innovative Structural Steel Design by “INSDAG National Competitions for Civil/Structural Engineering students” held at Calcutta among hundreds of entries from different parts of the Country.
