The Electronics & Communication program at Government Engineering College, Trichur, is a well sought after course by students because of the emphasis provided on innovation and practical knowledge.  The excellent lab facilities and committed faculty members have created a learning enviornment that attracts the best and the brightest students from across the state.  The students are motivated to do the mini projects and final year projects in complete product form.  They are encouraged to make working models of innovative ideas.  The department provides several platforms for the students to interact with industry and develop practical knowledge. Almost 70% of the students get placed in reputed companies during their 6th semester of studies itself.

Electronics & Communication Engineering Association coordinated the co-curricular activities of the department. The Department organize mega event QUINTESSENCE which includes national lever paper presentation, exhibition, software contest, hardware contest, talks by eminent personalities and technical quiz. The QUINTESSENCE program is an excellent platform for students to develop skills related to project management, networking, financial planning, team building etc. The student wing of IEEE is very active and organizes technical sessions, seminars and group discussions. The department has a very active alumni association that interacts closely with the students and faculty towards continuosly improving the facilities and updating the knowledge base at the department.
